I was extolling the virtues of a lovely oversized clutch the other day, and since then I am a woman possessed. Somehow, the boxy structured bags of autumn and the fussy satchels of the season before just don't seem quite right anymore. Tiny little clutches, often box-shaped or embellished, have long been the evening bag of choice, but what I'm talking about are clutches for daytime: slouchy, casual and large enough to fit more than just a purse and a lipstick.
As usual, Columbine Smille (top left picture) is ahead of the game, toting around her American Apparel leather carry-all pouch, £40. I love this one because it's very simple, but the luxurious black leather and contrasting white zip make it stand out in any outfit. The other three pictures also show how these oversized clutches clearly become the focal point of any outfit, but in a very laid-back, unassuming way, which is exactly the appeal of the daytime clutch. It should be free of all fussy detail and in a strong but neutral colour, complementing the rest of the outfit without overpowering it.
